Liberia Map

Also known as the White City for the typical whitewash of its buildings, the provincial capital is historically a sabanero (cowboy) town but has in recent years come to establish itself as a gateway to the beaches of Guanacaste and the national parks of northwestern Costa Rica. Although it is a city that is modernizing its conveniences and services with a growing number of commercial malls, Liberia still manages to hold onto a small town pace of life with many charming buildings dating from the colonial period. In the heart of the city, Calle Real, which leads off from the central square is one of the town’s most historic roads and a good opportunity for sightseers to get a taste the Liberia of yesterday.
